Jamie Conway in the house, call volume soars

What a crazy good show on Monday. Jamie Conway, awesome pianist was in the house. We opened up the phone lines and the calls were non stop. 2-3 calls in the que all night. I don’t think we even took a commercial break (maybe one), lol.

a record breaking night, highest call volume ever.

Sunday becomes Monday becomes The Lounge Hour!

Mondays are really long days for me! I wake up at 4:30 a.m. to join Rob Hakala on The South Shore’s Morning News then I go to my day job and then I head back to WATD for South Shore Live at 8 pm! But I wouldn’t live with this crazy schedule if I didn’t love radio. And I wouldn’t stay up late on a Monday if I didn’t double love THE LOUNGE HOUR!!

On May 2nd we welcome back Senayit Tomlinson along with Mike Ramirez (pictured here with Senayit) on bass and Isaac Luxon on drums! Senayit is a true story teller…her music incorporates her ethiopian heritage, the ’80s pop sounds of the New York city she grew-up in, the classical music of the many cultural traditions she listened to as a child, fused into a listening experience that defies categorization. soulful, dynamic, and intimate, hers is a unique voice.

Senayit has released 6 albums in her career, her first album Senayit was recorded in 1999 in Olympia, Wa. The album Senayit was followed by Secrets, Whiskey, Waters of Life, Comfort and Loss, and her newest album In the Dark. All of these albums are available online at www.senayit.com. Check it out and tune in on Monday at 9:00 p.m. to hear Senayit live!

Jimmy Peters jammin’ in the house!

To cap off our star studded night was Jimmy Peters and his band. What a way to end a lovable evening of fun and entertainment. And he came bearing gifts. His latest CD and pens with stars and moons and all fanciful shapes! We loved that Jimmy!!

Jimmy was raised on rock and roll but also has explored country, folk, bluegrass, and blues.  You can find him at The Tinker’s son, Hajjars, Slap-shotz, O’Tooles and venues all over the south shore. Check out his upcoming show list at http://home.comcast.net/~james.peters3/gigs.htm

Hey, ho! Marky Ramone on South Shore Live!

Whew! What an awesome show last night! Did you all hear the interview with Marky Ramone?? It was amazing to talk with one of the members of The Ramones about the punk rock group that really changed music. The Ramones, who were influenced by groups like The Beach Boys and The Beatles, have influenced rock and punk groups for years now including The Foo Fighters and Pearl Jam.

Marky talked with us about the recent honor of the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Grammy’s and his many new endeavors from book writing to pasta sauce creation!

Check out our ustream to hear a recording of the interview. Hey ho, let’s go!

Music Lounge: Girls Guns & Glory

You may not often string these three little words together but next time you hear someone say Girls Guns GGG& Glory, in that order, listen up. GGG is a band of four with a unique flavor and sound. When you hear front man, song writer and guitar player Ward Hayden sing you’ll be surprised to find out that Ward grew up in Scituate and not south of the Mason Dixon line.

Ward and Girls Guns & Glory drummer Mike Calabrese joined us in the studio last week to talk about their roots, roots music and their upcoming show at the CNote in Hull.

Ward credits his mom to introducing him to country music as a child which is one part of the special mix of roots, folk and country that helps to make the Americana genre that GGG is known for. In fact the group is up for a Boston Music Award this year as the Best Americana act for 2009 and you can vote for them here!

GGG has three albums under their belt and their latest was recently re-released under a new label. You can hear tracks from Inverted Valentine on their website. Check out Temptation – it’s my favorite.

Ward’s a true story teller and you feel like you’re right there in the front seat of the car he’s driving on this emotional journey of love found and love lost. Powerful stuff.

The group will be performing in MA, NH & ME in the next few months, the closest show to the shore will be @ The Paradise in Boston in January. Take a listen on their website, their sound is just amazing.
