Harold Brown from Hamilton Company talks Welch
If you live in Scituate, then you probably have been asking the same questions we have here at South Shore Live: “What’s up with the vacant, red Welch Building? Who’s moving in? Is it changing dramatically? Monday night Lisa and I spoke with Harold Brown, Chairman of the Hamilton Company and he gave us the 411. Are you sitting? A chinese take-out is coming to Scituate. Yes, our very own! Man that place is going to be busy. And a second upscale restaurant from the owners of the famous Stella’s in Boston. That adds to the existing Harbor line-up of The Mill Wharf, TK Omalleys, Riva’s and Phins. The Hamilton Company said the plan is to make Scituate a destination spot and hinted that we might see some more outdoor cafe spots too. Hurray!
The Hamilton Company is pretty familiar with downtown Scituate having built the upscale condominiums right next door — the one with the movie theatre and ice cream shop. Harold also knows the area well from his college days when he and a buddy got a boat and became irish sea mossers. “It’s how we paid for our college tuition,” Harold told us.
We also found out the entire building will be gutted “like new” and an elevator added. But the outside will be preserved to keep the historic look of the building. And some sweet historical touches will be carried forward including beautiful wood maritime flooring and a wall of relics such as old invoices from the 1800′s.
This Fall/Winter there may be a grand opening so keep you eyes open.
Thanks for joining us Harold!
